The current title holder of the Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra can no longer find her finishing gear or probably no longer have enough determination during the past few runs. She was beaten by her rival steed, Unrivaled Belle, during the $400,000 La Troienne Stakes. The event happened last Friday and was hosted at the Churchill Downs.
But this was not the first for Rachel Alexandra. As a matter of fact, Rachel Alexandra lost for the second time after she returned to the track this 2010 as a 4 year old mount. The Churchill Down was filled with crowd rooting for her. They were expecting Rachel Alexandra to have the same run like the way she used to do in 2009. Last year, Rachel Alexandra earned her reputation when she had the 20 ¼ length victory during the race happened in Kentucky Oaks.
According to Steve Asmussen, Rachel Alexandra’s trainer, the horse was not that fast compared to what she was before. Running a good race is different from running a great race.
Last month, Zardana beat Rachel Alexandra during the race in New Orleans. It was hosted at the New Orleans Ladies Stakes located at the Fair Grounds.
