Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, a Problem We Can Prevent
- With 0 comments
Fetal alcohol syndrome (or FAS) is a pretty strange disorder that can simply ruin the life of the newborn children, by completely messing with their brain or by causing other disabilities. So, yes, the fetal alcohol syndrome is a real pain, but the greatest part is: it can easily and completely be prevented!
Since the fetal alcohol syndrome occurs when a woman ingests alcohol during pregnancy, it is obvious: if you want your kid to be healthy and have no risk of contacting the FAS, you should not drink a single drop of alcohol. Of course, you could drink and still have a healthy kid, but are you willing to risk that much?
The thing with the fetal alcohol syndrome is that doctors don’t know yet whether the amount of alcohol a woman drinks, the frequency or the moment of drinking at least a drop of alcohol are responsible for this syndrome, and there are slim chances we’ll have any improvements.
So remember: the fetal alcohol syndrome is a disease that is 100% irreversible (and it could even kill the child), but it’s also 100% the fault of the parents, if the mother ingests any alcohol during pregnancy. So think twice (or better – three times) before deciding to drink during pregnancy. Just like smoking and pregnancy, alcohol and pregnancy is a huge “No-no!”
