Lena Horne Funeral, Family and Stars Gathered in Manhattan
- With 0 comments
It was Friday morning when the Lena Horne funeral happened in Manhattan. Family and friends of the actress and jazz singer Lena Horne had their last chance to be with her. The Lena Horne funeral was held at the St. Ignatius Loyola located at the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
During the Lena Horne funeral, there were a lot of celebrities who mourned as they lose a great fellow singer and actress such as Dionne Warwick, Vanessa Williams, and Walter Mosley. B Michael, a great designer, was also at the Lena Horne funeral as well. Some of the important figures in politics also expressed their condolences to the family and attended the Lena Horne funeral including Governor David Patterson and NYC Major David Dinkins.
It was just Sunday last week when Lena Horne died at the age of 92. She spent her last days at the New York Presbyterian Hospital where she also had her last breath. Her excellent performance at the Stormy Weather proved the whole world that she is indeed a woman of many talents.
But just like any other black performers during her time, the people gave so much attention to her race instead of her talents. She said to Brian Lanker, the publicist of the book entitled I Dream a World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America, that she was always having a hard time fighting against those who were criticizing her race. It was actually regardless of the location where she performs.
