When it comes to search engines, Google is clearly the winner and I doubt things will change anytime soon. However, it is good to see that the giants keep trying and the last one to do so is Microsoft, the company launching the Bing search engine, one that they certainly hope to turn into a “Google killer”.
At the moment, Bing is in its Beta stages and we can’t say too much about it, except for the fact that the first page, with its background image, indeed looks a little bit cluttered, even though I could get used with something like that.
Results-wise, there are still some problems and it appears that Bing gives more importance to already established websites when it comes to news and posting, meaning that independent content is more difficult to be found using Microsoft’s search engine. It would also mean that, if successful, bloggers will be less important on the web and only established companies will be promoted, helping them grow even bigger. And although this is obviously a bad thing for many bloggers, it might at least solve the problem of “spam blogs” and such that offer no actual information, but only try to get money off their users.
However, if Bing will be successful and people will switch from Google to Microsoft’s search engine – that remains to be seen. One thing is clear, though: there is some extra competition on the market now and it’s all for the best interest of the users.
