Modern times bring with them modern and new conditions – as if the swine flu wasn’t enough already! (or the bunch of diseases and conditions we have in the world atm and can’t be cured). Either way, even if we don’t like it, there is a new condition starting to cause damage in the world: the Cell Phone Elbow, a new cell phone-related affliction.
What is the cellphone elbow (or Cell Phone Elbow, as others call it)? Well, a disease that occurs to people who use to talk often at their cell phone. When we talk on the phone, we bend our elbow – this causes a nerve underneath the funny bone to stretch and, if long talks are involved, it can get “choked” due to a lack of blood supply to the nerve. This in turn, will make you feel a tingling in the ring and small finger (and I believe we’ve all felt that sometime!)
In such a case, we’re talking about this Cell Phone Elbow (or, in medical terms, cubital tunnel syndrome). Although not dangerous at first, it is potentially dangerous since it could provoke a long term damage to the nerves, and eventually make it hard or even impossible for us to perform some routine tasks like opening jars, for example.
In order to avoid this Cell Phone Elbow (or cubital tunnel syndrome), people are adviced to use a hands-free cellphone, cut off the amount of time spent talking at the phone or simply switching hands from time to time in order to allow the nerves to relax and get the blood they need. And it’s so easy to avoid this rater not dangerous problem!

Cell phone elbow is also known as “cellbow” or its official name, cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS).
CuTS is a repetitive stress injury (RSI) that can result in moderate to severe pain and numbness in the elbow and ring & little fingers. Untreated, CuTS can result in extreme pain, surgery or an unusable hand.
The problem occurs where the ulnar nerve passes around the elbow. The nerve rests in a groove called the cubital tunnel tucked behind the bony point on the elbow. Repeated stretching or hitting this nerve results in numbness, shocks and pain, similar to what you feel when you hit your “funny bone.”
The ulnar nerve can be stretched and irritated by talking on a cellphone frequently or for long periods. If you cannot reduce your cell phone use, the next best solution is to buy an earpiece that allows you to talk on your phone hands-free.
If any of your readers are afflicted with cellbow, they may wish to visit our Cubital-Tunnel.com forums where they can share their experiences, ask questions and get answers about their condition.
