Player Profile: Chauncey Billups
- With 0 comments
Following this year’s NBA Playoffs, a new player started to gather all the attention of the public: Chauncey Billups, a 12-years old veteran currently playing for the Denver Nuggets. Therefore, I have decided to create a “character sheet” (bio) about Chauncey Billups, so you can know all the important and fun facts about this great basketball player’s career!
Chauncey Billups is a 6 ft 3 in Point Guard who was born on September 25, 1976 in Denver. He went to the University of Colorado at Boulder where he was named to the Big 12 Conference First Team and the Basketball Times All-American First Team. He was drafted in the NBA 3rd overall in 1997 by the Boston Celtics (right after Tim Duncan and Keith Van Horn, but ahead of Tracy McGrady).
However, his stay at Boston was short – halfway through the season he was traded to the Toronto Raptors. He didn’t get too much play time and changed teams pretty often, also cursed with injuries: he moved to the Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic, but didn’t play a single game for Orlando. He eventually ended, in the 2001-2002 season at the Minnesota Timberwolves as a back-up but had a great season and started to draw the attention of the coaches.
In 2002, Chauncey Billups was signed by the Detroit Pistons and soon became a leading star for the team, eventually helping the Pistons win the NBA Finals in 2004 against the LA Lakers. At the end of the season, he was named the NBA Finals MVP Award with 21 points and 5.2 assists per game, and his fame kept going up, just like his game.
In November 2008 Chauncey Billups was traded to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson. However, this time Billups was no longer considered the dead weight of the team and he made an impressive debut: 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in the first 30 minutes for Denver! At the moment, Billups is playing great for Denver, averaging 25 ppg in the Playoffs!
During his nice career, Chauncey Billups also made it to the NBA All Star Game four times (the past four years), but he was fairly unremarkable. However, at the moment, he is the 10th 3-point shots scorer in the history of NBA (with a bit over 1,400 three-pointers), and he will probably go even higher if he keeps up the great work he’s doing.
Information regarding the Chauncey Billups profile and bio was collected by me from Wikipedia, NBA.com and ESPN.
