One of the most important events in international football (or soccer as we know it) is the Euro Championship, and the next edition, the 2012 one, will be jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine. However, recent reports regarding political and economical problems in Ukraine made people raise their eyebrows and wonder if the Eastern European country still has the power to host such an important event.
To keep things short, the final answer is “Yes,” as UEFA president Michel Platini said: “It’s impossible that Ukraine would lose Euro 2012.” This assurance comes after he previously threatened to revoke the hosting rights if the Olympic stadium in Kiev was not build.
Ukraine’s deputy prime minister Ivan Vasyunyk also had a really nice comment to make, in order to keep Platini pleased with the progress: “As a state, as a football federation, as a joint team, we are ready to confidently receive your pass. As a united team we will score the winning goal in the Euro 2012 championship.”
