10 Best Songs to Fight Against Depression

Music is, in my opinion – and I am sure I’m not the only one who believes this – one the most powerful drugs in this world: a song can help improve your mood, change it completely, make your day or, in very few cases – ruin it completely. In today’s article, we’re going to focus on the best of the best: 10 songs to listen to when you’re depressed!

Back in the days when I was suffering from depression, nothing seemed to work. If you have it, you probably know it: nothing helps, you just want to lie there in the bed all day, doing nothing and letting your mind create the most horrific scenarios it can come up with. In my case, getting a dog to fight depression helped a lot, but music really saved me. So I’ve created a playlist of over 100 songs that help me a lot when I’m depressed and I am sharing my 10 best songs against depression with you below. They might just work!

songs to fight depression

But before we get there, here’s what I was looking for in a song to help me fight depression: they have to be happy and positive, they need a certain rhythm and a strong message. It’s not always about being happy or feeling happy, but also motivational and inspirational: as long as they can help you regain your faith in your power AND help you stay positive, they’re amazing songs!

Monty Python – Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

This might not be a song for everybody, but I really like it and I consider it extremely uplifting. The message in the chorus is what I need when I’m feeling down and the happy whistling makes me smile and fills me up with energy!

Rod Stewart – Sunny Side Of The Street

There are a ton of versions of this song, but I prefer Rod Stewart’s because I love his voice better. It is easy to listen to and it’s extremely inspirational to help you kick depression out.

Pharrell Williams – Happy

This is a relatively new entry on my playlist, and probably a song that everybody knows already. It simply makes you happy and you will always end up dancing when you’re listening to it!

R. Kelly – I Believe I Can Fly

Insanely motivational, this is one of my all time favorite songs. You have a lot to learn a lot about your own strength by listening to the lyrics, like: “If I can see it, then I can do it / If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it” Cause you have to believe in you!

The Foundations – Build me up Buttercup

Even though the lyrics are clearly not the happiest on ever written, you can simply let them pass by and instead enjoy the amazing sound – that’s enough to make you happy and that’s all that matters!

Travis Tritt – It’s a Great Day to be Alive

A positive song that shows us that every day is a great day. And there’s an even better one on the list so keep reading!

Bobby McFerrin – Don’t Worry Be Happy

Encouraging, with great lyrics and an extremely catchy sound, Don’t Worry Be Happy is even better if you can listen to it while watching the video. And get all that positive energy from it!

The Proclaimers – 500 Miles

For some reason, I love this song from The Proclaimers and I consider it one of the best, happiest songs that I have ever heard. It’s energy and the voices of the singers really fill me up with positive energy and make me happy. Always on my playlists!

U2 – Beautiful Day

Another song that reminds you how lucky we should consider ourselves for being alive on this earth – and that there are so many things we should enjoy and allow them to make them happy. Great message, great song!

Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive

What doesn’t kill you, makes it stronger. Just get a grip on your life and be the change that you want to be. You will survive. You will do a lot better. It’s the only way to do it!

There are a lot of great songs that help you stay positive (or regain your faith), but these are 10 of my favorite ones. Do you have any extra to add to the list? Let us know by commenting below!
