For some reason, for me, an “post-apocalyptic” movie fan, the kitchen concept by Gorm I’m going to show you below is simply amazing since it rather looks like some device that came from a sci-fi movie in which resources are few and one must transform everything in order to minimize waste and survive.
And maybe this eco friendly kitchen is about survival, too: survival of the species and the planet. What is this kitchen design about?
“Is a living kitchen where nature and technology are integrated in a symbiotic relationship, processes flow into one another in a natural cycle, efficiently utilizing energy, waste, water and other natural resources,” explains the description. “It provides a space not only for preparing food but an environment that gives a better understanding of how natural processes work. A kitchen where food is grown, stored, cooked and composted to grow more food.”
Sounds really interesting, right? Well, it is! Basically, this is how it works: dying dishes dip water below on a rack of edible plants. A terracotta container is there, acting as a refrigerator and making sure that the water evaporates through an outer wall, while food scraps are broken down by worms in a composter and used as fertilizer for the edible plants above.
The waste? Minimal! Hopefully the worms container is quite safe and there is absolutely no smell whatsoever, otherwise most of the nature lover would say “Pass” to this otherwise amazing kitchen concept by Gorm. Here are some images with it in action:
Really amazing, huh?
